Nursery Design + Styling Q&A

We loved getting to sit down with Taylor to learn more about her design and styling process when it came to Wells’s nursery. Keep scrolling to read more, and even see her mood board!

In the beginning of the design stages, were there any items you knew you HAD to include?

For us, the most important part to begin with was our chair. We are obsessed (is this a parent thing? being obsessed with a recliner!?)! After that, finding a crib we absolutely loved was the biggest piece. Our little guy will be spending lots of time in there, but also with such a small room, we knew it would be a statement piece.

How did you decide on the theme for Wells's room?

I knew that I wanted my "theme" to be "no theme" - ha! I wanted to create a cozy space that we all felt comfortable and calm being in. I'm not a fan of buying something that comes all together, so it was fun to pull pieces together to create a look I loved.

In terms of determining the layout, did you put together a mood board to get your ideas flowing? If so, where did you find yourself pulling inspiration from?

I found myself pulling a lot of mid century inspiration which kind of surprised me! But I love how it lends to a bit of a more masculine space without incorporating specifically "baby boy" type things.

What were your favorite details to focus on?

My favorite details are the molding squares below the chair rail that we used to add interest instead of a painted accent wall. My husband built and installed these, so they were a labor of love that I am obsessed with! Also, our little styled shelf featuring my favorite baby blocks ever!

How is styling and designing a nursery different from a wedding?

This felt SO different to me because it's a space you are in long-term. With a wedding, the time is so fleeting! We will spend so much time in the nursery with our little guy, I really wanted to choose quality pieces that would last but also that I would love to look at while in there. Also, functionality. Almost everything in a nursery has to be used and function well for your baby.
